What Essential Oils Can Do For You

Many people find themselves looking for natural health care remedies for their ailments and illnesses, but they don't know what to do or where to start. If you are among these people, you likely have gone to the shelves of your local health store and stared at the essential oils section not knowing which to choose or how to use them to help you with any health issues you may encounter in your daily life.  To help you know which essential oils to choose, get to know some of the various benefits that essential oils can provide. This will give you a starting point for your foray into natural health care and essential oil use.

Tick Prevention

If you like going outdoors when the weather gets warm, going for walks and hikes in the woods or even spending a day in the park, you know that ticks can be a real issue. One brush against the wrong tree and you can find yourself with a tick latched onto your body that is not only difficult to remove, but can cause you serious illness such as Lyme disease.

Many people rely on chemical-based bug sprays to prevent ticks. However, as you may know, some people believe that the chemicals used to repel bugs can cause respiratory troubles for those who have asthma, can cause allergic reactions, and may even be carcinogenic.

Instead of using these chemical bug repellents, you can actually give rose geranium essential oil a try. Natural medicine enthusiasts have long believed that rose geranium oil prevents ticks from latching on and can even be used after the fact to help coax them out. All you need to do is buy a bottle of rose geranium oil and dilute it with a carrier oil such as olive or coconut and/or water. Then, you can spray it lightly on your skin like a regular bug spray.

Headache Relief

When you suffer from chronic headaches or migraines, you may not think that strong smelling essential oils will make your situation better. However, if you use the right essential oils, you can actually relieve your headaches using some of these natural essential oils.

Lavender oil is one of the best remedies for headaches and migraines. While some essential oils are not recommended for undiluted application, you can actually apply a few drops of lavender oil directly to the temples to help relieve headaches. Or you can dilute three to four drops of lavender oil in water and boil over the stove. Once the water begins to boil, carefully lean over the pot and breathe in the vapor deeply.

You can also use peppermint, basil, rosemary, clove, or frankincense essential oils to relieve headaches. These oils are best used as an aromatherapy treatment, diffused into the air to be breathed in.

As you can see, essential oils can serve various purposes in your life. Consider these potential uses for essential oils in your life and continue to explore the many ways these natural health remedies can work for you. For more help, contact a company like Living It Out.
